Plays and feels (very important for me) really great - not much missing for a ,,real" game!

I'm here and ready to test for you.

General Discussion / Re: Retiring

Hi Andrew,

much has already been said and I can agree with it. It's your personal decision of course and it's understandable although I'm very sorry and it's a real loss for the community! I personally could only help a little but I can say that it was an honor and an experience to work with you.

Boulder Dash 2 pushed the boundaries of what was possible on the 2600 and I got to see the development up close (and to think that your Wen Hop, Sentinel or Elite would have become a full game at some point...). I think that the 2600 has already become something of a passion for you and if you ever want to develop something again, you know where to find like-minded people - I'm definitely there if you need me.

Regards,

Jürgen

No input lag? And what is still missing: the possibility to rotate the screen 90 degrees.

Yesterday I had the idea that the rope would be perfect for a kind of Dig Dug. Everything is a bit bigger than in the arcade version, but so is the implementation of Boulder Dash for the 2600. The digging already fits and the enemies are now also in the water etc.

What is the most recent version - I found a working one in the PlusCart directory?

Agree - this one deserves more attention as it looks and plays fine. Game is very difficult and (as far as I know) only runs with my PlusCart.

Will this be streamed or recorded or should one attend physically?

The last files (elite_ICC1 ... 3) don't run on my light sixer via PlusCart - only black screen.

Quote from: Andrew Davie on 17 Aug 2024, 02:56 AMSo I'm at a bit of a "take a break" phase, thinking about future options. Maybe wait for a dual core alternative hardware option, or possibly try to get interrupts working and have the screen draw interrupt the rendering code. But that may not be as attractive as I first thought, so probably dual-core is the best option. Dunno, we shall see.
Maybe waiting for the the PlusCart/FujiNet device. They ported the PlusCart code to the RP2040 and it uses an ESP32 instead of an ESP8266. But it is still in an early stage:

So, from an ,,end-user point of view" what is the benefit to have a Pico enhanced PlusCard? Is it ,,just" to have more power to do more network wizardry or other things? Can the existing PlusCard be upgraded or do i need another PlusCard (let's say the PlusCard P)?

Mine from SAG arrived and I love it:

Elite / Re: Stress tests

I just had the following idea: Tempest should perhaps also be possible with this technology. The focus (and the high-resolution graphics) is where the player is. If that were a possibility - I think a lot of people would be thrilled.

Hard to believe that we look here at Atari 2600 graphics 😮
